Staycation by the beach at Puerto Del Sol, Bolinao

The long, tiring day of island hopping and the intense heat of the sun made our impulsive decision to stay in a high-end resort worth the splurge. We just wanted a whole day for relaxation - eat good meals whenever we want to, sleep in air-conditioned rooms after lunch, swim in a huge pool, hide in fluffy comforters, order a bottle of wine, and walk a few steps towards a beautiful beach and a golden sunset. Puerto Del Sol almost had it all.

We got a mansion villa good enough for 4 people. For P7,000+, we had a mini veranda with a coffee table and a refreshing view of the swimming pool. Bougainvilla in full bloom hung in every room and made the resort even more summer perfect. At one point, I attempted to read a book in our veranda but ended up closing it after only a few sentences because I just wanted to absorb the lovely view in front of me.

If you're not up for the splurge, you can avail of the open nipa hut located smack right at the beachfront. This curtained hut is ideal for those who want to enjoy fresh air. You also get your own mattress and pillows.

The beach is good enough though they say that the sand in Patar public beach is a lot better.

The only downside about Puerto Del Sol is the food. We all got a complementary breakfast each and we availed of the other buffet meals during our stay but it didn't live up to my expectation of high-end resort standards. Even the waiter asked us if we wanted our red wine served to which my friend replied "No, you do not serve red wine."

All in all, Puerto Del Sol is a great escape for those who've had enough of Batangas' black sand and rocky resorts.
