The balloons and the kids who watched them
It wasn't really a weekend of everything that flew. It was a weekend when Alebeth drove while we all slept in the car.
The 18th Philippine Balloon Fiesta aims to "fuel passion for flying" and "promote tourism." I wasn't on either ground. I just wanted a weekend of everything cute and colorful. So we went. It was dark when we started driving from Manila to Pampanga and around 5:30am, we were on site. The traffic was not a torture but the walk from the parking lot to reach the Omni Aviation Complex was. Spectators have started to gather even before we arrived. Some have even camped out the night before. Families with children in tow and picnic mats and baskets started arriving. The sun went up and the kids started looking up, and pointing out to the huge colorful balloons which were slowly being inflated.
The balloons shot up one by one and the ground was filled with frenzy. Everyone started taking out their cameras. While many glued their sight on to the sky, I had mine on the kids around. The balloons were amazing but the kids and their genuine happiness were simply beautiful.
