A review: Stilts, Calatagan

 Is it? Really?

As part of the Events team in my company, we scout for venues for company events like the summer outing. It's a 2D/1N event held out-of-town at the company's expense. This year, we picked Stilts in Calatagan, Batangas.

Stilts offers a very relaxing environment - the seas are calm, the sunset is golden pink, the rooms are dainty and sit right atop the water, with lots of eye delight that come in cute quotes found everywhere you look, completely shutting your mind off from the outside world.

It could have been the perfect relaxation hub.

But when it comes to handling huge groups (ours was a group of 600 divided in 2 batches), the resort has quite a number of things to improve on, as experienced in the first batch. Lunch was served late, utensils were dirty, menu was not complete, rooms were held too long for cleaning, etc. It would've been understandable if we were walk-in customers but this was a 7-figure event with terms laid out one-by-one and written in contract months ahead.

In fairness to the Stilts team, they made it a point to compensate for the inconveniences that their mediocre service has caused us. But this was after we've been bombarded with complaints. They gave us complimentary cocktail drinks, rented a better sound system for the second batch, served food on the dot, and made sure that there was a boss present within the vicinity at all times. They were even kind enough to call the vice-mayor to borrow an ambulance when one of our employees encountered a minor accident.

Things to do: Yoga by the beach, drift through wanderland on a hammock outside your cottage, chill - just chill, foot ball!

It's sad that they messed up the first time because all the negative seem to have overshadowed the positive - the clean rooms, friendly staff, huge pools, sand finer than Laiya resorts, etc. The resort was really a great venue for relaxation but bad service put it in bad light.

Impressions are golden. Resorts should always put their best foot forward regardless of sales value and/but especially if we're talking about a 7-figure contract.

I'd go back most probably but in a smaller group.
